1. At the top, choose your gender and enter the month and year of your birth.

2. Next enter the calculation date if it is not today. Otherwise the program will default to today. Click 'Today' to return to the current date.

3. Press 'Calculate' to finalize your input. Your life expectancy is automatically calculated and displayed in years and age.

4. Lastly, the 'percentage chance' determines the chance of living a given number of years. Changing the chance spinner will recalculate the 'years' and 'to age' numbers. You may also change the spinners of years or age to determine the chance of living in such a manner. Note that your life expectancy is shorter than the number of years you have a 50% chance of obtaining. It follows that you have less than a 50% chance of obtaining your life expectancy. The smaller the chance - the greater the amount of years. The female above will have a 5% chance of living to age 100.

The program is based on the UP 1994 mortality table released by the Society of Actuaries. It assumes generational improvements (Table AA), meaning a 50-year-old today is not going to live as long as a 50-year-old will 10 years from now.
